Experience the Western Isles as never before, with stunning coastlines, quaint towns and brooding castles Take in the spectacular Island of Mull, Ardnamurchan point at the Island of Eigg, the mysterious Loch Alsh and more on your way to Skye, and finally Mallaig, the busy working fishing port home to the very best freshly-caught seafood available.
Land excursions that will delight be that special walks with wildlife photo opportunities, castle visits or distilleries. Meeting the locals is very much part of the experience to understand the history and culture of our islands and to partake in a ceilidh or two.
Highland Lassie welcomes you aboard at approx. 4 pm to enjoy a champagne reception and time to explore the boat before your welcome dinner.
Today we cruise to the picturesque village of Tobermory on the Island of Mull for a full day of exploration. We will take a tour of the Tobermory distillery, visit an array of independent shops offering individuality from chocolates, soaps, jewellery etc. The perfect place to pick up that gift or souvenir. We lay anchor in the bay for the night.
Heading north around Ardnamurchan point we will see the Island of Eigg and the white sands and gentle coastlines of Morar as we cruise to the Island of Rum, where we will lay anchor for the night. Going ashore we will visit Kinloch Castle. Rum has the largest Manx Shearwater colonies in the world, nearly 1000 red deer and it is known that both Golden & White-tailed Eagles breed here. We also hope to see otters and the Rum pony, reintroduced to the Island by John Bullough in 1988.
Cruising east into the Sound of Sleat and on to Loch Alsh where we will lay anchor for the night below Eilean Donan Castle. We will of course visit the castle that is the most visited, and said to be the most photographed castle in Scotland. Steeped in history, yet in more modern times it is known for featuring in films like The Highlander (1989) & The World is Not Enough (1999).
Travelling west under the stunning Skye bridge passing the Island of Raasay we cruise to Portree on the Island of Skye. Here we will explore and collect fresh langoustine from Simon the local fisherman to enjoy for our dinner aboard anchored in the bay of Portree.
Entering the Sound of Sleat we come ashore at Isleornsay, a picturesque corner on the tip of Skye where we visit a quirky shop selling quality Harris Tweed, a must-have to take home. From here we cruise to our destination, Mallaig, a busy fishing port. We will take advantage of the abundance of fish landed here to incorporate it in our farewell dinner aboard.
Departure after breakfast, approx. 11 am.
