Your Itinerary

Day 1

Guests are collected from Inverness to Join Highland Lassie in the picturesque village of Dochgarroch for a 4 pm champagne reception with canapes, made familiar with the boat and go through safety procedures before being taken to your cabins. A perfect spot to take a wee stroll along the towpath prior to your welcome aboard dinner at 7 pm.

Day 2

After your first breakfast aboard, we go through the lock at Dochgarroch heading toward Loch Dochfour passing the iconic Bona lighthouse built some 200 years ago to guide ships into the Caledonian Canal, before entering the vastness of Loch Ness where we start our Nessie hunt!

Half way down the Loch we disembark at Urquhart Castle, the present ruins date between the 13th to the 16th centuries, we will hear the tales of her roles in the wars of Scottish independence, raids by the MacDonalds & by Jacobite forces. We part – take lunch under this impressive castle, then continuing our cruise to berth for the night at Fort Augustus. Time to explore the village prior to dinner aboard at 7 pm.

Day 3

Breakfast having been served we take an excursion to Foyer’s waterfall set in a dramatic gorge; on the journey we travel through rugged landscapes with ample vantage points for some stunning photo opportunities.

Returning to Fort Augustus we will enjoy a pub lunch in the village before heading up the impressive 5 lock system. Once at the top we go through another couple of locks the charming Kytra & the serene Cullochy before entering Loch Oich, the smallest and most beautiful of all the lochs, where we drop anchor for the night, enjoying dinner aboard at this charming spot.

Day 4

We continue our cruise through Loch Oich toward Laggan Lock where on its approach we enter an avenue of majestic trees, once through the lock we enter Loch Lochy heading toward Gairlochy Lock, one of the tallest in the canal system where we berth for the night. A wee trip out to visit the Commander’s Memorial and the woollen mill at Spean Bridge before dinner aboard.

Day 5

A morning excursion to Clan Cameron Museum and onward to the Witches Pool where below the thundering waterfall it is said suspected witches met their end, (one way or another!)

We can spot the cave where Bonny Prince Charlie hid from government troops during his escape to France and Loch Arkaig where a boat took him west across country. Here in picturesque surroundings, we will enjoy a picnic lunch. Once through Gairlochy Loch we travel along the canal system to Banavie where we berth for the night and take dinner at the foot of Ben Nevis.

Day 6

After an early breakfast we leave the boat to board the ‘Hogwarts Express’; the Jacobite steam train said to be one of the best railway journeys in the world, travelling from Fort William to Mallaig which takes you over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct. As Mallaig is renowned for its fish it would be remiss if we didn’t partake in a fish’n’chip luncheon before heading back on the train.

Before returning to Highland Lassie, you will take in the magnificence of Glen Nevis where gentle stroll or a more vigorous walk can be had. Returning to the boat for a late farewell dinner.

Day 7

After breakfast we disembark Highland Lassie travelling through fabulous countryside and alongside the lochs back to Inverness.
