Your Itinerary

Day 1

Collection from Dochgarroch by Inverness where a road journey through fabulous countryside & alongside lochs to Banavie to board the Highland Lassie for a champagne reception with canapes. You will be made familiar with the boat and safety procedures before being taken to your cabins. A perfect spot to take a wee stroll along the towpath prior to your welcome aboard dinner at 7 pm below the impressive Ben Nevis.

Day 2

After an early breakfast we head toward Fort William to board ‘Hogwarts Express’; the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig, said to be one of the best railway journeys in the world which goes over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct.

Once in Mallaig we will take advantage of its fine reputation for fish and partake in a fish’n’chip luncheon before heading back on the train on the return trip. Coming back to the boat for pre-dinner drinks to enjoy another delicious meal aboard.

Day 3

Having completed breakfast we head up for some fantastic photo opportunities to Glen Nevis, classic Highland scenery which is why part of ‘Braveheart’ was filmed there. Here will enjoy gentle walks or for those will bundles of energy a wee hike up the waterfall to the top, where looking down into the lush valley will take your breath away.

Having to drag ourselves away we head back to Highland Lassie for a forward cruise along the canal to Gairlochy where will berth for the night. A wee trip out if desired can be made to the Commander’s Memorial or the Woollen Mill at Spean Bridge before dinner aboard.

Day 4

A morning excursion to one of the Highland’s best kept secrets, the Witches Pool, where below the thundering waterfall it is said suspected witches met their end, (one way or another!) We can spot the cave in which Bonny Prince Charlie hid from the government troops during his escape to France, and on to Loch Arkaig where a boat took him West across country.

We visit the Clan Cameron Museum and partake in a Queen Victoria style picnic before heading back to the boat for our cruise along Loch Lochy heading toward our berth for the evening at Laggan Lock. Here we take dinner aboard and may visit a local hostelry.

Day 5

After breakfast we travel along the canal entering the splendor that is known as the ‘Avenue’ with imposing trees on either side of the canal. We cruise into Loch Oich, the smallest yet certainly the most beautiful of the lochs in the canal system. Entering the canal to lock through at Cullochy and Kytra we head toward Fort Augustus where we will berth for the night.

We will take a pub lunch at the fort before heading to Foyer’s Waterfall set in a dramatic gorge; on the journey we will travel through rugged landscapes with ample vantage points for some stunning photographs. Returning to the boat we will enjoy a fine dinner aboard.

Day 6

We make our way down the flight of 5 locks, a masterpiece of engineering by Thomas Telford, into the famous Loch Ness where we will enjoy lunch whilst cruising. Half way along Loch Ness we will see the dignified ruins of Urquhart Castle whilst we do a spot of Nessie hunting. Mooring at the castle whose ruins date between the 13th and 16th Centuries we will visit to learn about the history of the part it played in the wars of Scottish independence, raids by the MacDonalds & of the Jacobean forces.

Continuing the stretch of Loch Ness, we lock through at Dochgarroch where we berth for the night and our farewell dinner.

Day 7

After breakfast we bid you a fond farewell and best wishes for your forward journey.
